Our History

In 1972 a group of neighbors in Northwest Portland joined together to provide themselves and their families with groceries. Our first store was a little house on 23rd avenue which we proudly named “The Real Good Food Store.” That first store was small, but the impact of people coming together to provide for themselves and their community was big. Over the years our cooperative has grown to include almost 6000 members and more than 90 employees.

At Food Front we emphasize local, organically produced food and offer an extensive selection of organic produce, organic and natural grocery items, organic dairy products, bulk items, perishable foods, fresh deli foods, vitamins, herbs, cruelty-free body care, aromatherapy products and more. We treasure our relationship with local farmers who provide us with the freshest and finest. Why? Because we know they care as much about the food they grow as we care about the food we eat!
